Simple Needs to Help

Important Everyday Items

Below is a list of supplies we routinely share with those who ask. As one could imagine, taking care of nearly 800 birds per year creates a great deal of clean-up and maintenance duties. Here is our list of standard items:

  • cash donations are always needed to help with food and medical supplies. All donations are tax deductible.
  • paper towels
  • dish soap, liquid bleach
  • Arm & Hammer washing machine detergent (or, other scent-free brands)
  • Clinic supplies such as cotton balls, Q-tips, and rubbing alcohol
  • “Simple Green” or “Green Works” cleaner
  • cleaning brushes
  • computer paper and mailing stamps.
  • dry cat food to feed mice (i.e., to feed the owl food)
  • plastic garbage sacks (30-gallon size) and also tall kitchen bag size
  • zip lock bags of three sizes: 2 gallons, 1 1/2 gallon, and 1-gallon sizes

  1. All Raptors have hollow bones which help them fly.
  2. Owls do not build their own nests; because they lay eggs earlier in the year than most other raptor species, they use existing nests to raise their young.
  3. Barn Owls specializes in rodent prey, catching up to 2,000 mice in a single year.
  4. Harris Hawks are the only hawk species known to hunt for prey cooperatively in family groups of 3-7 birds
  5. Peregrine Falcon when in a vertical dive after prey, called a “stoop,” peregrine falcon is the fastest animal in the world. It has been clocked at 242 mph.
